Based in Chicago, the HR Manager will partner with the two Partners, Director of HR and staff to create a positive, professional, and equitable work environment at Talman. The position works closely with the director of human resources in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions and activities. The HR Manager is responsible for the overall management of all Human Resources functions and duties, including developing and overseeing personnel policies, hiring processes, compliance audits and updates, employee relations, benefits administration, disciplinary processes and grievance resolution.
Plan, develop and implement strategy for HR management and development including hiring, policy/practices, employee relations, benefits administration, personnel records, and performance management in anticipation of FMLA.
Rewrites job descriptions as necessary; to be consistent with growth of the company.
Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee engagement and morale.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of labor law and assure compliance including providing direction to directors, managers, and staff to ensure they are fully informed of HR requirements, objectives, and plans.
Oversee data integrity and confidentiality of the HRIS system (Namely) and other personnel information.
Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt, nonexempt and temporary workers; writes and places advertisements; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; conducts reference checking; extends job offers; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-path program and employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews.
Oversees staff recruitment initiatives including outreach in search planning and placement, managing staff position control, actively guiding and participating in recruitment screening, interviewing, and hiring process.
Working closely with organizational leadership, support an intentional development and maintenance of an organizational culture that serves the mission and strategy of the organization, including a process of monitoring and attending to staff morale.
Administer complete benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, EAP, retirement, life insurance, workers' compensation, unemployment, vacation, sick leave and leaves of absence.
Maintain open-door policy to cultivate supportive work environment for all employees.
Handle complaints and grievances with awareness of when to refer to Director of HR or Partners.
Work with directors and SPM's to solve personnel issues, problems, and procedures.
Oversee development and implementation of health and wellness programs.
Conduct ongoing evaluation of all human resources practices, policies and programs.
Protect interests of the organization in accordance with human resource policies and governmental laws and regulations.
Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of all federal and state laws and regulations governing employment, as well as all college policies and practices.
Interprets and monitors employment regulations to ensure compliance. (e.g. EEOC, Wage and Hour, Harassment, ADA, Discrimination, etc.)
Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 annually; maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Education & Experience
A bachelor's degree and/or five years of experience in the HR field.
Human resources certifications are preferred (e.g. SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, etc.) Proven human resources skills and knowledge.
Experience with FMLA
Strategic thinker with strong operational skills.
Familiarity with current employment and labor laws and regulations.
Prior benefits management experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative relationships with employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Possess outstanding listening and influencing skills and the ability to cultivate trust and credibility among various constituencies.
Ability to establish credibility and be decisive while maintaining positive employee relationships in service to the mission.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Strong management and interpersonal skills.
Strong time management, detail orientation, and organizational skills.
Good judgment to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
Ability to organize and prioritize a complex work plan with ever-changing priorities.
Familiarity with Namely or other human resources systems is a plus
