The Fort Wayne Urban League is seeking a President and CEO to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the non profit social service agency.  An affiliate of the National Urban League, the Fort Wayne Urban League seeks to improve the economic, cultural, social, and educational conditions affecting all citizens in the city of Fort Wayne, IN and surrounding communities.  As an affiliate of the National Urban League, the Fort Wayne Urban League reaches nationwide audiences and also partners with the other Urban League affiliates, making it a stronger proponent for programs that can be replicated across the country.

As President and CEO you will serve as the chief administrator, and you will report to the Board of Directors/Trustees.  As President and CEO, you will advance the mission of the Fort Wayne Urban League, which is to empower individuals to move towards greater independence and self-sufficiency, by providing mentoring education, support, and advocacy. 

As President and CEO your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing, articulating, and communicating the vision of the Fort Wayne Urban League
  • Providing leadership to the organization and administering its functions and operations
  • Directing the day to day operation
  • Implementing and administering all policies and procedures
  • Assisting in the development of short and long range objectives
  • Evaluating current programs and services of the Fort Wayne Urban League and leading the effort in implementing any needed changes.  Leading the effort in the development of new programs and services.
  • Engaging multiple stakeholders in the mission, goals, and objectives
  • Being the principal spokespersons, in conjunction with the Board Chair
  • Creating and implementing a multi faceted development/fund raising plan in which you will take the lead role
  • Generating new ideas and leading them through to completion
  • Initiating and maintaining relationships with staff, board, political, corporate, and community leaders
  • Establishing agenda items and outlining each into action items for completion
  • Forming a disciplined approach to achieving goals and objectives
  • Engaging in dialogue across race, gender, sexual orientation, economic, and other differences

Your background should include:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, social work, public administration, or finance.  Depending on experience, other degrees may be considered.
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years of non profit or for profit senior level management experience
  • Prior experience with the Urban League movement is desirable 
  • A proven track record of leadership working with community based organizations
  • Strong experience in fund raising/development
  • Experience in the development and implementation of some or all of the following: service programs, program evaluation, advocacy, and public education
  • Fiscal management, strategic planning experience, and resource development experience
  • A track record of impacting change in an organization
  • A demonstrated exceptional ability in the areas of planning, fund raising, fiscal administration, proposal writing, and organizational skills
  • Solid experience in human resource administration, community and public relations, advocacy, and strategic planning
  • Minimum of four years of experience working with a volunteer board, community leadership, and mobilization and collaboration efforts, with a strong emphasis on successful collaborations
  • Strong management and supervisory experience
  • Strong track record of building solid relationships
  • Grant/proposal writing experience
  • Government/community relations experience; solid interest in urban issues
  • A demonstrated excellent level of oral and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence
