The Director of Chemical Operations will be responsible for managing and driving results for all areas of operations in a chemical manufacturing facility. This specifically includes using Lean Manufacturing processes to direct plant operations through reporting Managers and Supervisors, consistent with sales forecasts, production schedules and planned growth.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responsible for the safe and effective manufacture of specialty chemicals.
• Manage the central functions including manufacturing, E H & S, quality assurance, supply chain and maintenance/engineering
• Work with business leadership to incorporate new technology and processes into the facility; implement a cost effective methodology to ensure successful implementation
• Work closely with other business functions (S&M, technology, etc.) to support and contribute to new product development, scale-up and product modifications
• Promote a safe workplace environment
• Drive cultural change, accountability and continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization
• Ensure that the assigned production units are operated in accordance with proper environmental guidelines
• Develop area goals, objectives and annual operating budgets, and review capital projects for safety and operability
• Support continuous improvement in production through operating procedures, implementation of best practices and related training through ongoing dialogue with operations personnel
• Maintain close communications with senior management to ensure customer timelines are being met


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• BS in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering
• Ten years experience in a chemical plant
• Minimum of seven to ten years of progressive management experience with success through influence, persuasion, coaching and counseling
• Ability to lead with little supervision and an entrepreneurial attitude
• Knowledge of batch and continuous chemical processing, including reaction vessels/skids and distillation equipment
• Excellent safety record – proactively supports and recognizes safe operating practices
• Working familiarity with Lean Manufacturing tools and concepts
• Must be a self starter and able to make fast and accurate decisions; with experience driving toward team-based organizational structure and culture preferred
• Proven communication skills
• Strong PC skills, including MS Office software
