Purpose

Coordinates, implements, and maintains the company's PC-based software and hardware.  Interfaces directly with server and network support personnel.  Performs second level assistance to users. Assists LAN staff with PC and Local Area Network (LAN) issues. Provides input to other IT staff on capacity planning analysis. Assists in determining desktop standards to be used by Bemis.


 


Duties


Diagnose and resolve basic PC problems related to Operating System and application configuration including installation and basic software support.


Install and configure component hardware on both PCs and Laptops.


Manage multiple tasks with limited oversight.


Ensure conformance to established PC policies, procedures, and standards.


Consult with server and network personnel in the resolution of PC/LAN problems as needed.


Assist with and implement projects involving installation of new (non-server class) hardware


Organize and maintain computer related assets, including non-deployed hardware.


Work with application support personnel as needed on first level support.


Provide recommendations for desktop solutions to determine those which best meet company needs


Provide on-call support (via pager or cell phone) on a rotating 24x7 schedule.


 


Skills


Ability to work in a distributed computing environment – may assist or work with other Bemis locations as needed.  Ability should be experienced with:


Technical infrastructure design/support as represented in the Bemis IT Standards


Problem solving based on experience with the technology


Support of the office automation software products such as Microsoft Office


Support of a distributed Windows-based network – Vista experience also preferred.


Strong research skills and the ability to self direct training to keep current with technology advancements.


Ability to analyze relationships among several parts of problem or situation and thoroughly break down complex problems into manageable parts.


Ability to prioritize and multi-task.


Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company. 


Ability to develop logical, clear, and concise written instructions / reports.


Ability to use computers to do word processing and spreadsheets (required).


Organizational skills and ability to maintain overall asset database.


Basic experience in application development/programming (helpful but not required).


 


Education/Experience


A Bachelor's Degree with emphasis on Information Technology, MIS and/or Engineering preferred but not required.


Minimum of an Associate degree with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in desktop support in a comparable environment required.
