The New York Power Authority (NYPA), America's largest state-owned, public power enterprise, has an exciting opportunity for a Environmental Engineer to work in our White Plains, NY office.In this position, you will be the Authority's foremost staff expert in the area of electric utility wastewater streams, and chemical and petroleum bulk storage design and compliance.Knowledge of both Federal and State environmental regulations is essential.
The purpose of this position is to assist and support Authority staff to assure that the Authority meets its environmental regulatory obligations and requirements in a sound and cost-efficient manner. The candidate will employ environmental and engineering principles and practices to assess and insure environmental compliance of utility operations and requires an advanced knowledge of both operational constraints and regulatory requirements.The candidate must be able to prepare original guidance and process designs and documents that support best-in-class operation.The successful candidate must establish and/or maintain on-going relationships with a diverse array of regulatory agency staff members for the purpose of sharing technical information and acquiring insight to agency interpretations related to area of expertise.
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering along with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience.A Master's Degree is preferred.A New York State EIT is desirable or the ability to obtain one in short order. The candidate is expected to be knowledgeable in the applicable current environmental regulations, codes, standards and guides associated with the position.Excellent planning, problem solving, collaboration,decision-making, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential. Proficiency with the use of personal computers in a LAN environment and PC based software packages including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point is also required. Travel to Authority facilities will be required.
